Oman’s Khimji Group Set to Establish India’s Largest Rolex Retail Network
By Shilpa Dhamija14 novembre 2024
Khimji Group, one of Rolex’s longest-standing authorised dealers in Oman, is now expanding to India with a network of Rolex boutiques. In an exclusive interview with Luxury Tribune from Muscat, Nailesh Khimji reveals his vision to transform the luxury watch-buying experience in India.
In the early 1960s, Gokaldas Khimji, an Oman-based businessman of Indian descent, launched the country's first-ever Rolex boutique. Nearly six decades later, the Rolex-Khimji partnership is only growing stronger, with the Khimji Group now expanding its Rolex network beyond Oman, across the Arabian Sea, into India—one of Asia’s fastest-growing luxury markets.
Nailesh Khimji, current Director of the Khimji Ramdas Group and a fifth-generation member of the Khimji family, has already opened two Rolex boutiques in India: in Hyderabad and in Mumbai's Jio World Plaza. The group has also opened a point of sale (POS) in Ahmedabad, a key metro city in Gujarat. This financial year, the group plans to launch two more Rolex boutiques in Jaipur and Udaipur—both popular wedding destinations for the country’s wealthy. Two additional boutiques are set to open next year in undisclosed locations, bringing the Khimji Group’s total Rolex POS to seven in India and establishing Khimji Ramdas India Pvt Ltd. as the largest Rolex retailer in India within just eight years.
The Khimji Group has built a strong reputation in Oman. What prompted you to focus on India instead?
Nailesh Khimji: We chose to expand into India because we believe it is poised to become the next global growth engine. India’s wealthy population is larger than the combined wealthy population of the Middle East. Among all major developing markets like China, Japan, and even European nations, India also has the largest youth population.
