Asked for comment today, Cyrille Vigneron said: "I wanted a gradual transition before turning 65 and moving from the role of global CEO to chairman. I'm very pleased that my successor will be someone from within the Group.”
Louis Ferla, a French national, joined Richemont in 2001, starting with Alfred Dunhill as sales director in Hong Kong and then as general manager in Taipei. In 2006, he joined Cartier, where he held a number of management positions, including in the Middle East, India and Africa, before being appointed managing director in China. In 2015, he was promoted to the jewellery house's executive committee as international customer and business director. Mr Ferla has been Managing Director of Vacheron Constantin since 2017.
From January 2025, Cyrille Vigneron's duties as chairman Culture and Philanthropy will focus on subjects he is particularly fond of. He continues: "Cartier's museum exhibitions around the world, the new women's pavilion at the Osaka World Expo in 2025, as well as the Cartier Foundation for Contemporary Art, which will take up residence at the Palais Royal in 2025, will be among the exciting projects to be led, not forgetting Cartier Philanthropy and Cartier for Nature".

The recent appointment of Nicolas Bos as CEO of Richemont on 17 May this year launched a long-awaited series of changes at the head of the brands, starting with Van Cleef & Arpels, which has until now been occupied by Nicolas Bos, whose replacement has yet to be named. The appointment of Louis Ferla as CEO of Cartier confirms Johann Rupert's desire to appoint a new generation of managers to key positions, enabling the Richemont Group to secure the future of its flagship brands, reassure investors and allow its own succession to take place.

Commenting on Louis Ferla's appointment, Johann Rupert, Chairman of the Board of Directors, said: "I am delighted that Louis has accepted the top job at Cartier. He has earned the admiration and respect of his colleagues within the Group and the industry as a whole for having so brilliantly positioned Vacheron Constantin at the pinnacle of Haute Horlogerie. His experience and leadership will prove invaluable to Cartier's long-term success.
