TAG Heuer supports female drivers and becomes official partner of the F1 Academy
On 27 February, TAG Heuer announced that it would become the official partner and timekeeper of the F1 Academy, a championship exclusively dedicated to female drivers. Created in November 2022 by the Formula One Group, it aims to support female drivers' integration into Formula 1.
Born out of the need to also include highly promising female talent, the creation of the F1 Academy now brings together six teams of three female drivers. The third season of the F1 Academy will begin with the series launch in Shanghai, China, from 21 to 23 March. The seven-round championship will take place on three continents, in China, Canada (Montreal), the United States (Las Vegas and Miami), Saudi Arabia (Jeddah), Singapore and the Netherlands (Zandvoort).
On 27 February, the Swiss watch brand TAG Heuer, the official timekeeper of Formula 1 since this year, announced that it would be supporting the F1 Academy as an official partner alongside other sponsors such as Puma, Charlotte Tilbury cosmetics, and Red Bull, among others.
Directed by Susy Wolff, wife of Toto Wolff (director of the Mercedes-AMG Petronas team) and former British driver who, among other things, took part in four Formula 1 free practice sessions for the Williams F1 Team in 2014 and 2015, said: ‘This partnership reflects a joint commitment to empower female talent and a desire to accelerate change in our sport - it’s most certainly not just a man’s world anymore.’
The drivers will be driving a car made by Tatuus, the Italian manufacturer, specially designed to balance performance, safety, and driver development. With a carbon monocoque chassis that complies with FIA 2021 safety standards, the car incorporates advanced safety features. Powered by a 1.4-litre turbocharged engine from engine manufacturer Autotecnica, it develops 174 hp and accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.6 seconds, with a 240 km/h top speed. It is designed to prepare drivers for F3 or other categories.
Antoine Pin, CEO of TAG Heuer, said in the official press release: ‘The values of F1 Academy perfectly reinforce the commitments and ideals of TAG Heuer where innovation and performance are on par with our egalitarian sprit and our openness to all. We are honored to continue our indelible connection to motor racing by becoming Official Partner and Official Timekeeper of F1 Academy.’
The watch brand also announces its support for 17-year-old Australian driver Aiva Anagnostiadis, at the wheel of the TAG Heuer car operated by Hitech Grand Prix. Aiva's talent is very promising, as in 2024, she regularly tested with Argenti Motorsport and finished 10th in her first season in the Indian F4 Championship.
