Shades of China
Wu Sibo, a Chinese artist born in 1976 in Maoming, captures the economic and social metamorphosis of contemporary southern China through his monochrome paintings, all in shades of gray. His works, imbued with melancholy and subtle poetry, depict daily routine, blurring the boundaries between urban and rural, and offer a contemplative look at a habitat in mutation. In “Fireworks III” (2023), he captures the tension between the joy of New Year’s fireworks and a poignant solitude. The artist is recognized for his ability to give visual voice to ordinary scenes.
