Rite of passage

Concheros. The Mexican ritual dance preserves many elements of the pre-Columbian religious ritual. It would have been born in 1522, after the Spanish conquest of the Chichimec tribe. In the Aztec culture, the dance was an essential element of the ritual system. It fulfilled religious, cosmic, magical, social and military functions. The dances, at first forbidden by the colonizers, were later assimilated by Catholicism. The chiefs of dances would be guardians of the pre-Hispanic tradition. (Shutterstock). (Shutterstock)
