Chinese New Year 2021, when the buffalo is overtaken by the mouse

Chinese New Year marks the first day of the Chinese lunar calendar. This year, it is celebrated on February 12th. It is the year of the metal buffalo, the second in the order of the Chinese zodiac. It is said to have originated with the Emperor of Jade, chief of the gods, who wished to select 12 animals to form his close guard. The buffalo came second to the emperor, preceded by the mouse that had hidden in the buffalo’s ear. Chinese New Year is obviously a time for gifts. The luxury goods industry traditionally records a strong increase in sales during this period.
