A Speedmaster witness to the Invisible Man
Ralph Ellison (1913-1994) was an American novelist, known for his novel The Invisible Man, published in 1952. In this photo he is wearing Speedmaster ST145.012. Not only is it a collector’s favourite, it is also the latest model to be equipped with OMEGA’s calibre 321, the calibre which went to the moon.
This exceptional watch which belonged to Ralph Ellison set a new record for the reference in New York by Phillips last December 12, achieving $667,800
Omega Museum and Archives Director Petros Protopapas on the piece: “Having just read “Invisible Man” again, I cannot overstate the sheer importance of Ralph Ellison’s work for our society and for our world. I can imagine how the chronograph’s role during the pioneering days of America’s space program would have been a logical choice for someone with deep concerns about everyday life on Earth and under the stars.”
