OMEGA’s CEO, Raynald Aeschlimann, donated over half a million Swiss francs to the NGO Orbis
The auction of eleven OMEGA MoonsSwatch Moonshine Gold suitcases raised a total of 534'670 Swiss francs. Raynald Aeschlimann, President and CEO of OMEGA, presented all the proceeds from the auction in Hong Kong on Tuesday, February 27 to Derek Hodkey, President and CEO of Orbis International, an NGO which fights blindness around the world.
From February 12 to February 24, watch enthusiasts and MoonSwatch Moonshine Gold collectors could bid online to win one of the eleven collector's boxes. Sotheby's auction house digital platform enabled a global operation that was open to all and more accessible to a broad audience.
Each boxed set contained eleven OMEGA x Swatch "Mission to Moonshine Gold" watches, the initial estimate of which was between 5,000 and 10,000 Swiss francs for the highest. It was the first time that these models had been sold together, and the exclusive MoonSwatch case had been available for purchase. Enthusiasts were even able to see the complete collection contained in the case up close as eleven OMEGA boutiques around the world had it on display. Zurich, Tokyo, Bangkok, Singapore, Hong Kong, Beijing, New York, London, Milan, Paris, and Sydney could all obtain a dedicated case. The Beijing Edition recorded the highest sales figure, selling for 60,960 Swiss francs, twelve times the primary estimate.
Orbis has provided eye care to millions of patients through its programs and aboard its flying eye hospital. The meeting between Mr. Aeschlimann and Mr. Hodkey was an opportunity to celebrate the auction's success. As a symbolic gesture, they met in front of Orbis' Flying Eye Hospital and exchanged a Seymour teddy bear, which has become an icon of the partnership between OMEGA and Orbis. OMEGA gives each young patient at Orbis, their teddy bear before undergoing treatment.
The "Mission to Moonshine Gold" models are a version enhanced with an 18K Moonshine™ gold seconds hand - a unique alloy created in-house at OMEGA.
