It is Kering's turn to sign the EcoWatt charter, the tool created by RTE, the French electricity network operator. This initiative helps guide large companies in implementing strategies to reduce energy consumption.
As the French authorities prepare to face possible power cuts, Kering has decided to join EcoWatt in order to join the collective effort required from private companies.
This charter proposes a platform designed to analyse, thanks to real-time data, the level of consumption and possible overloads that could affect the electricity network. Alert systems will be automatically set up to enable companies to limit their energy consumption. The measures to which Ecowatt refers are numerous: limited use of illuminated advertising, switching off lighting at night, training employees and collaborators in energy-saving strategies, and reducing heating in offices and workshops.
Each company is invited to intervene where possible to optimise electricity consumption and thus avoid shortages.
Kering is very ambitious, since the group has set itself the goal of reducing its consumption by 15% over the next few winter months. Several giants of the French economy have also joined EcoWatt, such as the bank BNP Paribas, the airline Air France, the retailers Carrefour and FNAC. In all, nearly 90 major French companies have already signed the charter.
Xavier Piechaczyk, chairman of the RTE board of directors, welcomed the companies' efforts, describing them as "a new, large-scale lever for reducing the risk of power cuts this winter.
More globally, Kering's objectives are to reduce its environmental impact by 40% by 2025. The ecological theme is now central to the group's strategies and several initiatives have been launched to pursue this commitment. For example, in January 2021, Kering and Conservation International launched the Regenerative Nature Fund, whose ambition is to convert one million hectares of farms and pastures into regenerative agricultural areas by 2026.
