India’s Richest Man Hosts Modest Wedding for Son. Pledges €1.1B in Philanthropy

Gautam Adani, India’s richest man, with family wealth valued at about €125.4 billion ($138.5 billion), celebrated the wedding of his youngest son, Jeet Adani with Diva Shah, daughter of a leading diamond merchant in India, in an intimate ceremony in Ahmedabad over the weekend.

Gautam Adani announced a donation of ₹10,000 crore (€1.1 billion) to establish a network of high-quality, affordable hospitals, medical colleges, and educational institutions (ReelsAndFrames)

Honoring traditional Gujarati customs, the wedding festivities were vibrant yet refined and understated with no international artist performances, celebrity guests or extravagant displays of wealth.

Soon after the wedding, Gautam Adani, owner of the Adani Group, announced a donation of ₹10,000 crore (€1.1 billion) to establish a network of high-quality, affordable hospitals, medical colleges, and educational institutions. He also introduced an annual program to provide financial support to newly married women with disabilities.

On the wedding day, Diva Shah - the bride wore traditional Lehenga (Indian wedding dress) in classic Gujarati bridal colors of deep red and ivory, ornate with Zardozi (gold thread embroidery) made by Indian couturier Sabyasachi Mukherjee. Her bridal jewellery, an essential part of bridal ensemble in Indian weddings, was made in yellow gold with Polki (uncut diamonds), pearls, and ruby beads.

The week-long pre-wedding festivities included performances by local regional Indian artists. During the pre-wedding functions, Diva wore bespoke couture by Indian designers Manish Malhotra, Tarun Tahiliani and Anamika Khanna, showcasing intricate heritage hand embroideries. The décor for the festivities was designed by local wedding planners, featuring handcrafted vibrant elements made by women lead organisations in India, specializing in crochet and cane weaving techniques.

Gautam Adani, 62, a first-generation entrepreneur is the founder and chairman of the Adani Group, with business interests spanning energy, mining, gas, defense, ports, logistics, aerospace, and airports. His son, Jeet Adani currently heads the family’s airport and digital labs businesses. The Adani family lives in Ahmedabad, the capital of Gujarat state and home to some of India's wealthiest families.
