From the presentation of "Palimpsest" by Colombian artist Doris Salcedo to the museum's "Anniversary Exhibition", the Fondation Beyeler is celebrating art in all its forms this autumn.
After starting the year 2022 with a retrospective of Georgia O'Keeffe, an artist who left her mark on the history of American art with, among other things, her large-scale flower paintings that influenced feminist iconography, the foundation continued with the exhibition "Mondrian Evolution". This exhibition included 89 works showing the striking evolution of the artistic work of Piet Mondrian, a 19th century landscape painter and one of the major protagonists of modern art.
From 19 September 2022, the Fondation Beyeler will present "Palimpsest", an installation by Colombian artist Doris Salcedo, exploring the fate of migrants who have drowned over the past 20 years during the dangerous crossing of the Mediterranean or the Atlantic Ocean. The artist, born in 1958 in Bogotá, expresses the repercussions of violence and exclusion in her native country, as well as in other parts of the world, through large-scale objects, sculptures and installations. The exhibition will run until September 2023.
To mark the end of its 25th anniversary celebrations, the museum will showcase its largest collection of works by renowned artists from the 19th to the 21st century, including van Gogh, Monet, Picasso, Giacometti and Warhol. These 400 works will occupy almost all of the museum's display area and will provide an in-depth look at the quality of the Foundation's collection. In addition, the integration of hyper-realistic sculptures by the American artist Duane Hanson will provide surprising perspectives on the works of art, the architecture, and the people in the museum. The "Anniversary Exhibition" will be presented from 30 October 2022 to 8 January 2023.
