The French high-end tourism group announced this week the opening of its first address in Oman. The 300-room ultra-luxury resort will open in 2028 in Musandam, in the north-east of the country.
Fifteen years ago, Club Med first attempted to establish a presence in the Middle East, but the Arab Spring and the resulting geopolitical turmoil compromised the operation. This time, Club Med's ambition to expand into this region is becoming a reality. The famous trident company dedicated to luxury tourism in the world's most paradisiacal locations will open its first address in Oman. The French company has just signed an agreement with the local OMRAN group.
This is a milestone in Club Med's history, as the company has been planning for several years to enter the promising tourism market of the Gulf region. The resort will be built in Musandam and will feature 300 rooms, certified with the “exclusive collection” label, the most prestigious among those offered by Club Med. Construction will begin in 2026, with opening scheduled for 2028.
The country's northeast coast boasts breathtaking scenery, increasingly appreciated by privileged tourists. Another advantage of the future new address will be its proximity to Dubai airport, just two hours away by car. Thanks to the Group's strong identity in high-end tourism and new-found stability in the tourism market, Club Med's financial situation is flourishing: last year, the company posted record sales of around two billion euros.
In the current year, the number of reservations jumped by +15% compared to the previous year. The strongest growth was recorded in Asia, with a net increase in bookings of +51%, followed by America (+11%) and the European market (+7%). French customers, who are always keen on travel, accounted for sales of 743 million euros last year alone, more than a third of the Group's revenues.
Several new openings are planned over the next two years: a new Club Med is being set up in Borneo, in the Malaysian region famous for its rich biodiversity. In 2025, a Club Med village focusing on water sports and seaside activities will open in Benin, Africa. On the same continent, South Africa will see the inauguration of a facility that combines a beach holiday with a wildlife safari lodge.
