Chinese company BYD aims to conquer the European ultra-luxury automobile market with the launch of its electric SUV U8 at the Geneva International Motor Show. With sales on the rise and a factory planned in Hungary, the giant is betting on strong growth in Europe.

BYD posted a net profit of 10.95 billion yuan (1.39 billion euros) in the first half of 2023, an increase of 204.6% compared with the previous year (BYD)

At the upcoming Geneva Motor Show, which will start on February 26, Chinese automaker BYD will unveil its new electric SUV, the U8. The Chinese giant has set itself a new goal: to conquer the European market with its ultra-premium brand Yangwang. Coveted by Chinese customers, the vehicles designed and produced by BYD have enabled the Asian automaker to become more powerful than Tesla, a reference in the electric vehicle sector.

The group is now planning to build a massive factory in Hungary. In 2023, BYD sold approximately 10,000 cars in Europe, and despite tax constraints and rules set by the European Union, the Chinese company, now the global leader in electric vehicle production, seems determined to succeed. The target niche is ultra-luxury, thanks to Yangwang, which showcases the futuristic design of its cars and complex and high-performance hybrid technology. The new SUV U8 illustrates BYD's technological ambition with the DiSus-P system for safety, an E4 platform equipped with four independent electric motors for each wheel, plus a thermal engine designed to recharge the batteries and operate the 1200 horsepower. This system ensures a range of up to 1000 kilometers.

BYD (an acronym for Build Your Dream) seeks more visibility in Europe. Now, the brand is present at all key events related to the automotive market, such as the Paris Motor Show or the IAA Mobility in Munich. At the same time, the Chinese company will appear as a sponsor of UEFA during the 2024 European Football Championship. Discussions have been initiated with French Minister of Economy Bruno Le Maire regarding the establishment of a factory in France, demonstrating the financial strength of the group, which, in the first half of 2023, recorded a net profit of 10.95 billion yuan (1.39 billion euros), marking an increase of 204.6% compared to the previous year.

China, the world's largest emitter of greenhouse gases, aims for most car sales to be electric and hybrid by 2035.
